Scott has been practicing law since 2009. He graduated from Ave Maria School of Law at the Ann Arbor, Michigan campus. While attending Ave Maria Scott had the opportunity to intern for the late Honorable Richard L. Speer, bankruptcy judge in Toledo, OH, where he was introduced to bankruptcy law. This experience inspired Scott to focus his legal studies to prepare him for a career in bankruptcy and insolvency law. Scott took every opportunity throughout law school to learn and practice bankruptcy law. He interned for a Chapter 13 trustee and was the first student to compete on behalf of Ave Maria in a bankruptcy specific moot court competition. During his third year he was fortunate enough to clerk for one of Metro-Detroit's finest debtor's attorney with decades of experience as a solo practitioner. This attorney became his mentor, modeling the best legal practices and inspiring Scott to eventually have his own legal practice representing debtors, the general public and small businesses.
Upon graduating law school Scott immediately began employment at Metro-Detroit's largest bankruptcy specific law firm where the majority of his practice was dedicated to representing and actively litigating on behalf of Chapter 7 trustees for the next 6 years. When a debtor files bankruptcy their assets are placed in a bankruptcy estate. Bankruptcy trustees administer bankruptcy estates and distribute assets to the estate's creditors. As a result of his employment, Scott is extremely familiar with the common mistakes made by many debtor's attorneys and knows how to avoid the pitfalls so many debtors experience.
Scott is also familiar with the unique challenges and opportunities that come with running a small business. In 2016, Scott helped start-up a small medical software company located in Auburn Hills, Michigan, where he was the managing director. After a lot of hard work and dedication, the company has become an overwhelming success. Because of this experience, Scott brings to his law practice an even greater understanding of the realities of owning a business and the various pressures facing small business owners.
Scott has two kids, two cats and spends his time gardening, swimming, flying and traveling.
